How this work hours calculator works

Enter your time in and time out for each day of the week, then add optional break time. The calculator subtracts breaks and shows your daily total in two formats: decimal hours (industrial hours) and a readable HH:MM format. Your weekly total and daily average are calculated automatically. Overnight shifts are supported: if your time in is later than your time out (for example 10:00 PM to 3:00 AM), the calculator treats it as a shift that crosses midnight and calculates the correct hours.

If you enter an hourly rate, the tool estimates your total weekly pay based on your total hours. You can switch between 24-hour time and AM/PM format depending on what you prefer.

Common examples

  • Timesheet calculator: Calculate hours worked for each day and total weekly hours.
  • Time card calculator: Add break time and get accurate daily totals.
  • Convert time to decimal hours: Use decimal format for payroll and invoicing.
  • Weekly pay estimate: Multiply total hours by an hourly rate.

FAQ

What is a work hours calculator? +

A work hours calculator helps you calculate how many hours you worked each day and in total for the week based on your time in, time out, and break time.

Can I enter time in 12-hour (AM/PM) format? +

Yes. Use the AM/PM mode to enter hours and minutes with AM or PM. You can also switch to 24-hour mode if you prefer.

How do I enter break time? +

You can enter break time either as minutes (for example 30) or as hours and minutes (for example 0:30). The break will be subtracted from your daily total.

What are decimal hours (industrial hours)? +

Decimal hours show time as a single number. For example, 7 hours 30 minutes becomes 7.5. This is commonly used for timesheets and payroll calculations.

Does this calculator include overtime rules? +

No. This calculator totals your hours and optionally estimates pay using a single hourly rate. Overtime multipliers and country-specific rules are not applied.
